Breast Augmentation Revision

Breast augmentation revision cases can vary from simple to complex. Breast implant revision surgery may involve any of the following procedures: implant replacement to a larger or smaller size, an accompanying lift to raise the nipple-areolar complex and tighten the skin envelope, some sort of capsule work or modification (capsulotomy, capsulectomy, and/or capsulorrhapy), a site change from a subglandular position to a subpectoral position, placement of an acellular dermal matrix (ADM), and/or a change from saline to silicone (or less commonly silicone to saline) implants.

Implant exchange or replacement surgeries can be rather straight forward because simply switching from a saline implant to silicone gel implant, or increasing implant volume, may not require much pocket modification. However, patients who require removal or modification of the capsule, site change, and/or a breast lift involve procedures that require in-depth planning and are significantly more time consuming.

Revision augmentation cases are specific to each individual patient and the concerns or problems they have. Previous medical records and operative notes, as well as before and after photographs may be helpful at some point during the evaluation and subsequent planning. A thorough evaluation and attention to details are just as important in revision cases as they are for the initial augmentation surgery. It is therefore important that you seek an experienced board certified plastic surgeon to conduct your breast augmentation revision procedure.
